How we make money
The honest version, because you're trusting us during a hard week.
The short answer
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If a result points you to a service (a medical alert system, a home care agency, a senior living advisor), and you use our link to check it out or sign up, the company pays us a commission or referral fee. It costs you nothing extra. That's currently our primary business model: no subscriptions, no selling your information, no display advertising anywhere on the site.
What that means in practice
- The assessment is free and stays free. Your results appear without giving an email, a phone number, or a payment method.
- Recommendations can't be bought. The assessment result is rule-based: the same answers produce the same guidance for every person, every time. No partner can pay to change which advice appears. (More on this on How our recommendations work.)
- Safety renders above money, always. If your answers suggest a crisis, the result leads with who to call, before any link we could earn from.
- We label it. Every page with affiliate links carries a disclosure, and result pages repeat it right above the links themselves.
Referral services (like senior living advisors)
For some decisions, such as assisted living or memory care, the most useful next step is a free senior living advisor service that helps families compare local communities. Ours is A Place for Mom: when we introduce a family to them, they pay us a referral fee. It is genuinely free to you: A Place for Mom is paid by the communities it works with, not by families. You always choose whether to connect: every advisor link is clearly labeled, we never send your information automatically, and there is no form to fill in here. Like every link on this site, a referral never changes the guidance above.
How product picks are chosen
Some results and guides show specific products (a grab bar, a shower chair, a pill dispenser) as Amazon affiliate links. A product only appears when it matches a need you actually reported, and it is selected on specifications, safety certifications, and documented reliability, not hands-on testing, which is why we never show star ratings of our own. Each need gets one pick and at most one alternate. The commission never changes the match; the criteria do. The full criteria are on How our recommendations work.
What we don't do
- We don't require an account or email.
- We don't run display advertising anywhere on the site.
- We don't do Medicare Advantage lead generation.
- We don't accept payment for placement in our guidance, reviews, or comparisons.
Why we think this is fair
Families in this situation get bombarded by lead-generation sites that trade their phone number for basic information. We'd rather give you the information first and earn a commission only when a service is genuinely the right next step for your situation, and you decide that, not us.
