Is the assessment really free? What's the catch?
Really free: no account, no phone number, no email, nothing. Your results appear immediately, and you can download them as a PDF. The site is funded by affiliate links: if a result points you to a service (say, a medical alert system) and you use our link, we may earn a commission at no cost to you. The result logic is the same for everyone and can't be influenced by partners.
What happens to my answers?
They are scored entirely in your browser and never sent to us. Your result link carries your answers encoded inside the link itself (the part after the #, which browsers do not send to servers), so you can bookmark or share it. There is no account, no email, and no copy on our servers.
Is this medical advice?
No. We help you understand levels of care, typical costs, and how to have the family conversation. We never diagnose, stage memory conditions, or give medical guidance; that belongs with your parent's physician. If your answers suggest something urgent, the result will tell you to start with a doctor, before anything else.
How does the result work?
It's a transparent, rule-based score across the things that actually drive care decisions: daily activities needing help, falls and mobility, memory changes, safety incidents, current support, and budget. The same answers always produce the same result. There's no AI judgment call and no lead-broker steering.
What are the possible results?
Five: aging in place with a light safety net, aging in place with home modifications, in-home care, assisted living, and memory care. Each comes with cost context, ranked next steps, and conversation help.
My parent refuses to discuss any of this. Is the assessment still useful?
That's the most common situation there is. It's why every result includes a section on the conversation itself. Take the assessment based on what you've observed; you'll at least know what you're working toward, and you'll get openers that work better than "we need to talk."
I'm a senior looking into this for myself. Is this site for me?
Absolutely. Tell the first question it's for yourself and the whole assessment adjusts. Planning your own support system, on your own terms, is the strongest position to be in.
What does the Facility Checker do?
It's live: enter a ZIP and it pulls Medicare.gov Care Compare data (star ratings, staffing hours vs. the state average, deficiencies, fines, and abuse flags) for nearby nursing homes and translates it into plain English, ranked by quality. It covers nursing homes (assisted living is state-regulated with no unified federal dataset; for that we point you to our tour checklist instead).
